Jackie Le Poidevin is an editor and journalist with 20 years’ experience of writing about workplace issues. She edited a monthly journal about facilities management for more than 10 years and contributed to the first edition of the Facilities Management Handbook. She also writes about health and safety at work and edits an employment law publication.

Lara Colgan qualified as a solicitor in 2004 having gained a 2:1 law degree at Essex University. She trained at an international law firm and during her contract was seconded to Paris. Lara specialises in employment law and has a particular interest in helping smaller and medium-sized firms navigate the ever-changing minefield that is employment law. She also obtained higher rights of audience in 2006. More recently, Lara also studied for a Master of Laws degree in advanced employment law while working in 2006/08 and was awarded a distinction. Lara's dissertation was on stress at work and she has a particular interest in this area.

Now a non-practising solicitor, Lara moved into writing when she became Editor-in-Chief of an employment publication for small businesses in August 2011. She now runs her own writing/editing business writing on all areas of employment law. Before this, she worked in private practice for three different law firms advising purely on employment law issues. Lara enjoys helping businesses comply with the complexities of the subject in a 'jargon-free' way with handy practical tips and solutions for handling difficult situations.



Susan Mayne

Susan worked for nearly 20 years as an employment lawyer in the City before completing a Masters in English Literature and setting up in business on her own account as a freelance employment law writer.

As a freelance writer, Susan has drafted a complete set of precedents for a legal publisher, provided online updating and report services for law firms and publishers and written legal bulletins and provided training for law firms. Susan is also the writer and editor of two books: ‘Employment Law in Europe’, Mayne and Malyon, (3rd Edition) and ‘Cross Border Transfers and Redundancies’.

Susan aims to explain complex topics in a way which is both succinct and readable. Employment law can seem like a minefield but with straightforward analysis of the concepts, it is not so difficult to pick your way through.



Paul Tew

Paul Tew is a freelance adviser, primarily in the areas of pay, personal taxation and remuneration planning. A frequent contributor to technical journals on pay and benefits issues, having written for the "In Business" section of the Times, Paul continues to supply articles for various recognised professional publications and has had several looseleafs and books published on a variety of subjects including PAYE, NIC, sickness and maternity pay.  Paul has written and presented training courses, as well as headed up payroll and employment help desks and acted as an assessor for recognised payroll/HR qualifications. Paul previously worked in the healthcare and oil sectors managing Pay and Benefit services, so has many years of experience in dealing with compliance issues across a broad range of industries and employers.
